Recyglass® Solar Recycling

Over the coming decades, more and more photovoltaic systems will reach the end of their service life. For Europe, our scenario projects around 240,000 tonnes of end-of-life PV modules per year from 2030 and approximately 2.15 million tonnes in 2050. Around 70% of a typical crystalline module is glass.

With Recyglass® Solar Recycling, we have developed a solution that processes this material stream purely mechanically. What makes it different: the modules do not need to be dismantled. Glass-backsheet and glass-glass modules are fed in complete with frames and cables, even if they are damaged or partially dismantled.

The line consists of four Prall-Tec machines: the PTPVS shredder for pre-shredding, the PTT trommel screen, the PTRF fine grinding mill for cleaning the carrier foil, and the PTV balling mill for metal processing. The output is a set of defined fractions: glass in three grain sizes, aluminium, balled non-ferrous metals, a silicon-silver concentrate and a foil mix. Throughput ranges from 5 to 20 t/h, depending on the configuration.

For us, PV recycling is not an experiment. It is the logical next step in what we have done for more than 40 years: crushing, liberating and cleanly separating materials. Every machine is planned, engineered and manufactured at our plant in Lengerich, Germany.
